Arre anti-war protesters just a bunch of wornout hippies re-living their Vietnam era glory days

Arre anti-war protesters just a bunch of wornout hippies re-living their Vietnam era glory days?
According to a story that came out on Yahoo News about an hour ago, the size of the crowds are dwindling at the anti-war protest and a lot of the protester don't even want to go to Washington anymore. Apparently, there is a lot of infighting between the groups (some of the groups are total communistic in demands) and the article even pointed out that the percentage of youths taking part in the protests are small. For you people who tell me to put the thread in my message, I wasn't raised on the computer and I don't know how to do it, but you can look it up on Yahoo News. Poet_lie------I'm a Vietnam Vet, OK. I've seen war. Tracey, my question wasn't how many people are against the war, it was are the protesters worn-out hippies. tomjohn2----typical liberal tactic, attack the messenger, not the message. And thanks to you guys who were able to thread the article to my question. clwg-----didn't say nothing about the glory days of Vietnam, I said the wornout hippies were re-living their glory days of protesting------but I'm glad you got to give us a history lesson.

Considering polls show at least 70 percent of Americans want the U.S. out of Iraq, that's a lot of hippies. I wonder if we'll have patchouli oil and love beads enough for everybody. Crank up the production of Birkenstocks!
2 :
The last time they came to DC, the number of people protesting the protesters was as high as the anti-war crowd. I know this because some of my clients are involved with Gathering of Eagles and we went with them to the protest. God Bless Our Troops!!!
3 :
No, they are people who want their spouses and children at home before they get killed over OIL...far from hippies.
4 :
Nope. Anti-war protests pre-date the Vietnam war.
5 :
Well, if they are under 50 I doubt if they protested Vietnam, so it depends on how old they are I suppose.
6 :
I am an exhippie ....but I am not reliving the Vietnam era glory days. Nor did I protest. I was into peace and harmony. Not violence.
7 :
I think the size of the protests is dwindling because people are realizing that the current administration doesn't care about the people opinions. When a new president, from either party, the protests will increase in size until they too grow weary of an uncaring executive branch.
8 :
If they aren't wornout hippies they are following the same playbook. Looks like they are moving towards a disrespect of the troops who return as well
9 :
I think awareness is fairly high now about the wrongful war. Why preach to the choir? Protests are for raising public consciousness.
10 :
I would say if the crowds are smaller it is because they feel their best tactic now is to support a candidate who they believe will get our troops out the soonest. Most people who are against this war are too young to be hippies, and most are not against all war, but especially just this one.
11 :
War is always devisive. There will always be people who are strongly against any war, just as there will be people strongly in favour. These two groups just can't understand the others point of view and this isn't about to change.
12 :
You might not be a computer geek but you know your current events. That's more important. Yea, they got tired of not having a job and hanging out. They finally opened their eyes and seen who they were associated with and hightailed it back to relaxing on the beach.
13 :
I dunno, are they? I dont see any old people stoned on dope crack and Lsd... and i really hope i never do see a stoned crowd of old people coz that would be freaky.
14 :
First; you have never seen war from the front line; Second; you fail to realize what war is truly about and third; anyone who wish any war to continue; more than being a war monger, is a coward; fore they fight their wars form the comfort of their own home; thousands of miles away from the front lines. It is the interest in war that needs to be destroyed; in protest; this can never be accomplished. To protest is to insight another conflict. Alas; mankind was born to fight; the just need to pick their battles better.
15 :
Those protesters are like weeds. You get rid of them in the summer and they pop up again in the spring. Maybe not as many, but you still have to pull them or they ruin the garden. They are called socialist weeds and need the conservative spray and common sense,(not emotion) to get rid of them.
16 :
How ironic is this story... Alleged peace activist fighting to see who gets more speaking time... this story is hilarious.
17 :
i might be worn out mr grips, as i was discharged from the army in 73 after 8 years and 1 year in rvn, but i had a life to relive. i see from your questions your political bent is typical for a self righteous con. and i have a real good idea where that thread that you are looking for can be found. i'd say it's probably where your head normally resides.....you know, between your butt cheeks. i see your edit now mr grips, if you were in the rvn, i would think that you might have little more sense than to dog people out for there beliefs. smells like a remf to me.
18 :
NO, THE PRESENT ONES ARE PAID BY AGENCIES, THAT AT THE SAME TIME ARE GETTING ALSO THEIR MONEY FOR DOING THIS, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE SO CALLED "SECURITY FORCES"
19 :
Rrrrrrrright....of course you're a vet. How about changing your name to Captain Tool?
20 :
I think they are the misinformed children of the old 60s and 70s hippies. They don't know that it's not a draft military and the troops actually sign up to go fight.
21 :
you bet ye.

What do you mean Vietnam era glory days? There was no glory in the Vietnam days. Those were very sad and ugly days. We were originally sent to Vietnam as advisors, with full responsibility for training the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. Does this sound a little familiar or kinda compare to what we are supposed to be doing in Irag? Training and advising the Iraq Army and Police? Our involvement began in 1954 with small numbers of advisors. The numbers of Americans increased over time until the last soldiers left Vietnam on April 30, 1975. It is a very ugly and long story which you will need to read about. There are lots of good books if you are interested in finding out about "The Glory Days of Vietnam!" lol. There should be more than there is in our History Books about the Vietnam Conflict for young people to learn. The Vietnam conflict emptied out our Armed Services, and there had to be a Military Draft to refill and replace the numbers of soldiers needed to defend our Country. Check out the numbers of Soldiers that were in Vietnam over the time of the Conflict: Army-4,368,000--Marines-794,000--Navy-1,842,000--Airforce-1,740,000. The total # of Servicemen who served in Vietnam was 8,744,000. The escalation in the numbers started to go up in 1964. The number of American Servicemen killed in Vietnam was 58,209, the number of wounded 153,303, and 1948 missing. What is your point? What are you trying to say or insinuate? The Vietnam Veterans who take their time and money to go to Washington DC or other places to protest the Iraq War aren't doing it for themselves, they fought for their country already in a true hell hole. They are there protesting for the Soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan right now, and those who will be sent in the future. They are protesting for their children and grandchildren and great grandchildren who someday might be drafted to fight someday in the future. Take the time and look up how many young people are joining the Armed Services now. Since the Iraq and Afganistan things started the numbers of young people joining a Voluntary Army in the USA is way down. If GWB, or any other President, wanted to start a War with Iran or any other country they couldn't. The USA does not have enough numbers of men or women in the Services to do so. We do not even have enough Soldiers to help if there was an emergency here. If the size of the crowds are dwindling for now it won't last long. As far as the number of young people taking part being small that is another group that will increase someday soon. I don't care what any politician says "that there will not be a draft." With a Presidential Election coming up politicians will say anything. If young people are not joining the Military in the numbers needed, where are they going to get them from? Eventually, they will have to reinstall the draft in order to just keep the size of our Military at break even. That is when you will see young people out there protesting the war, the draft, future war and anything else they can think of. I wonder if Canada with allow draft dodgers this time? If there were enough of an Army, George Bush would already have us involved in Iran. Once this Presidential Election is over with it won't even matter who becomes President....there will be a Military Draft. The USA can't remain short of a Military force and unable to defend itself.

spice shops, big supermarkets, local grocery stores.

There are lots of Vietnamese vegetarian foods. Why do you want to live in Vietnam and avoid the food?? Why not try some different kinds of food and have new experiences in life? Get to know some Vietnamese vegetarians and eat what they eat. There is a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant near where I live here in Canada, so surely there must be something where you live.

i spent time in vietnam so i know your dilemma, for those saying it is esy you need to know the countries motto is practically if it has 4 legs or flies in the sky eat it, they also sell duck eggs with half grown ducks inside as a snack on the street, the vegetarian food is made to resemble meat so much I couldn't eat it ( very skillful though) The best food I ate was in a nunnery so ask some of your friends if they know a nun or monk who is vedgetarian who can send yoou in the right direction. You might be able to order ingredients online from singapore also you don't say where you are but im sure there must be a little india somewhere - maybe hoi an?
4 :
I guess they don't have Boy Scouts in India, no? Here's what you do chief, buy an indian/vietnamese dictionary (tu dien tieng an do/tieng viet). Learn important words (flour = bot), Search Google images for whatever spices, fruits, nuts etc you desire. Go to the crowded place that starts with the word cho (market) and point to what you want to buy,,,easy, peezee, vietnamesee
