Haven't ben to Hanoi ye but people report quite the same from over there we stay in HCMC (Saigone) for 4 weeks now, the rent for a really good serviced room incl.linen, cleaning, electricity and high speed internet is 250$, average taxi fares are aroung 2 $ a 10-15min trip, walking is easy as the inner HCMCis not to big, for good local food at a reasonable reataurants you pay around 3$ p person, the good local beer is 0,50 $ at the restaurant, if you buy yr food from foodstalls it doesn't even take 1 $ p person. At the supermaerket wine$ beer is absolutely cheap in comparison to other asian countries, a good aussie or californian bottle of wine around 7-10$,the local beer around 0,30 $ Don't worry to much about your budget, you'll ge along after you paid the airfare.

my brother was in that war, he was way older than me. I was only 16 at the time but I did support our country and troops. I did say the pledge of allegiance each morning in my class when no one else would. It was a hard time, I hope the people who did not support our troops at that time and spit on them, like Jane Fonda ...are sorry now.

I'll answer for my parents. They live in Vietnam at the time. There lives were bad because they were farmers and their farm got taken from them so they work on a Communist own land. My great grandfather was executed for refusing to leave his own land. My dad's father was marry to 3 other womens and he had a fun non-education life. My mom was the oldest out of 17 child in her family. The oldest die when he was 2 of a fever. She had a hard time taking care of the family since her father was always off in the war. Many times have news came that her father was KIA but it turn out to be a false report. It would scare there family half to death everytime. The Communist try to force my dad to enlist since at the time, every able young boy is suppose to be a military personnel when they are a teen. My mom wanted to be a teacher but she couldn't because she was from the farmer class. She was lucky because of her grades at school, they let her into some Communist work. My mom was in the country side and she told me a story once about be fire upon by US troops mistaking her for a VIet Cong. They were supported of the war because they want to kick the Viet Congs out of their country South Vietnam and end the Communist threat up north. The risk their lives to fled the countries. They were lucky since they weren't the ones who try escaping the way into Cambodia where those people got massacre. There were pirates who attack ships with refugees on that too. It took them over 7 years to reach the United States. When they got there, they had nothing. They work hard and help their familes get over here to the United States. My mom's family would have all killed since her father helped the United States during the war. Now, I'm living a good life not caring for what they did and what they live throught cause I'm a spoil American. My family and my opinion on the Iraq War and Vietnam War is that it has almost the same effect on the people.

Did you lived during Vietnam? What were your views on soldiers suffering from PTSD

Did you lived during Vietnam? What were your views on soldiers suffering from PTSD?
As I understand it, the a large precentage of soldiers who came back from the war suffered from post traumatic stress disorder and many remained very private about it. There are cases where soldiers took their own lives to make it a point that they could not function in society when they entered back. I am wondering about what the response was to this post traumatic stress disorder condition when it was floating around in the media.

Nobody knew about PTSD as we know it now. After WWII they called it "shell shocked," and during Vietnam it was "crazed Vietnam vet." Returning soldiers kept it private because there was a stigma attached, thinking they were crazy, and there were few psychological services for vets specific to PTSD.

Combat soldiers in every era are prone to physiological disorders brought on by the strain of combat. In the Civil War it was called Nostalgia. In WW I it was called Shell Shock. In WW II and Korea it was called Battle Fatigue. In Vietnam and since it has been refereed to as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. There is a liberal myth (part of the ongoing attempts to discredit and demonize Vietnam Vets) that we are all a bunch of basket cases unable to function in civilian society because we all engaged in committing atrocities in Vietnam and suffer from PTSD as a consequence. In truth only about 10 percent of the Americans deployed to Vietnam were in the infantry. About 5 percent were in direct support of combat operations. Eight-five percent of the Vietnam Veterans never saw sustained combat or fired a shot in anger during their deployment to Vietnam, let alone committed and atrocity or was ever subject to PTSD.

My son has PTSD. My husband was just considered a faker i think. No one saw or heard the screaming nightmares and the misery he endured for many, many years. He is a long term brain tumor survivor (think Agent Orange) and is on so many anxiety, anti psychotic, seizure, pain medicines he has them lots less now. The drugs and brain damage him the effects but they are still there. My poor son does not want to be labled for life with PTSD and I am terrified he will be just like his dad. As for the media post Viet Nam not much good was said about the vets or much care given to their condition. it was a crazy time in America.

Hmmm...what do you mean "Lived Through Vietnam"... Most nights I am still there...(RVN 69-70)(USMC) I agree with both posters especially the one with the Husband and Sons all Military...YOU MUST BE AN ANGEL !!!! Your Son will stand a better chance than us at a half way Normal life if he seeks treatment asap...we fought long and hard to keep the PTSD Units open and Operating...for the Next Generation of Vets so that they didn't have to wait 20-30 years for Treatment... It takes Seven (7) REMF's to keep One (1) Grunt operating in the Field... and they do a piss poor job of doing that... A GRUNT on a 6 month Combat Deployment in A'stan loses upto 40% of His body weight...mostly due to lack of proper meals...No Fresh Fruit/Vegtables/No Hot Meals etc... The reason the USMC/Navy came out with the "Combat Action Ribbion" (CAR) was to seperate the BS Wannabes as the VA was over whelmed with Claims for Combat PTSD...the number of Fraudulent claims awarded for PTSD is astounding...

Yahoo Answers is not the right place to post this. Plus, it appears that Vietnam has all out of country adoptions on hold. xxoo, LG
2 :
I couldn't find any adoption agencies in Vietnam. But I found an orphanage. You could adopt from there. http://www.orphaned.org/ It looks like the nun in the picture is holding a new born baby.
3 :
You can't adopt from Vietnam at the present time. Their intercountry adoptions are on hold.
