uhhh yesterday my puppy jumped in to a puddle.....and we lost him

i think you should contact them instead, and request for brochures and if you really want to learn it, ask whether can be paid by check. By the way, what sort of English you want to learn? american or british?
3 :
You could pay with a Debit Card. You don't mention where in Vn you live but even if the larger Viet banks don't offer debit cards, I believe you could get one at a foreign bank like Barclays or the Royal Bank of Thailand in the larger cities. Also, Talking Dictionaries on cds are very cheap, as well as bootleg copies of Rosetta Stone. BTW, your English grammar is Excellent !

If I am a volunteer worker in Vietnam for a government run orphanage, can that qualify me for a work visa

If I am a volunteer worker in Vietnam for a government run orphanage, can that qualify me for a work visa?
I visit Vietnam about every 4 months. While there I sponser caretakers at a government orphanage for handicapped children. I would like to live in Vietnam and work as a volunteer for this orphanage. Would this work qualify for a work or even a resident visa?

Vietnam always welcome those volunteers who come to help. Check with the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate near where you live and I'm sure they'll help you.
2 :
Interesting question. If you were in my area you would need a work visa to do what you're doing. Helping out at an orphanage would be considered a violation of a tourist visa. Whether or not it will qualify you for a work visa is another matter. Vietnam doesn't want workers, they want money. They've got plenty of workers here hence the crackdown on work visas which can be traced back to an article in the NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/21/world/asia/21china.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&partner=rss&emc=r

No.To get a business visa you must have a work permit. To get a work permit you must hold a university degree and have work experience for at least 5 years in your chosen field of work.As has already been mentioned by working [paid or unpaid] you are violating your tourist visa. Please don't be under the misapprehension that by doing a good deed you will favorably looked upon, you wont be.The Vietnamese do not live by the same moral code we as westerners are used to and certainly think in a much different way. I take my hat of to you for the wonderful thing you are doing, but your average corrupt official in immigration wont ,with people like you how does he get his money?.

I didn't think it was called Saigon anymore.
3 :
cost of living in Saigon for 1 month: 500 USD (dont include accommodation, it may vary depending on which one do you rent). Average salary for Vietnamese white-colar is 150-200 USD/ month. It depends on what job you work on. you may find some position paid 1000-2000 USD/month but its rare.

It is illegal to live together here in Vietnam without a marriage certificate. My wife an I went to Nha Trang last week on business and were required to produce our marriage certificate as per normal when we checked into the hotel. Its always been that way. Every hotel we've ever stayed at have required we produce it, even the ones who know us. At every address we've rented in Vietnam over the last 7 years the cops have turned up within days to check our bonafides. You may get away with it for a while, at a cost, but sooner or later the big boys will show up and it could cost you a lot more. Guys who have been through it tell me they treat the women like dirt. Haven't heard of anyone being busted in the last couple of years. That doesn't mean the laws have been changed. I guess its like motorbike licences. Sometimes they're necessary, sometimes they're not. It all depends on the cop.

My wife and I have not had to produce our marriage license while renting a room, yet, but enforcement of Viet law is very subjective. As B G stated, it is illegal for an unmarried couple to co-habitate. Shortly after we were married, a police colonel who I had never seen before came to our house at 10 pm with a squad of police. Since he woke me up, I'm afraid that I wasn't very nice to him, lol. I asked him why, after all the years I had visited Viet Nam and lived in this same house with my then girlfriend/fiance, the government had now decided to bother us at such a late hour. He said that they didn't know I was living there before LOL. This is especially funny because we live in the country and I tend to stand out from the locals in addition to the fact that my local contact address was our house. Anyway, to make a long story short, I asked him to not disturb us late at night again unless it was a dire emergency and invited him back at his leisure for dinner and a beer. We have since developed a very good relationship. Moral of the story, the government will leave you alone for the most part if you don't cause trouble, but they won't let you forget who runs things. And yes, they will come into your house and look around. They didn't search our house but his squad sat at our kitchen table drinking cokes while he made us produce our paperwork. Marriage, visa and real estate deeds, etc.
