Maybe, yes. Still the real motive may be to simply leave the land where they have experienced poverty and want. To paraphrase Tina Turner: "what does love have to do with it?"

They are not gold diggers. They want the same thing women all over the world want. A man who is able to support them.

If the American is rich, it is tempting, isn't. But really, the rich Americans stay in America. No, most girls are not gold diggers. But the places Americans visit when they come to these countries, are full of gold diggers, and so it may seem that way. As foreigners, it's hard to meet decent girls, they just don't frequent the same places. It would probably have to be destiny.

That's not true.. Most people want to get out of their native country to be free (Hence LAND OF THE FREEEEEEE.) or start a new life. My moms family came here to america around 19th century, and they only want freedom, not to be gold diggers. I don't think they care much about who has a lot of money, they just want to be free. That DOES sound selfish to date an American and marry them just so they can get out of their native country, but people aren't stupid like that these days.

They date Americans because they are really excited at the prospect of fighting a usless war and living in a country with a dying economy.

But then there is another side of the story here. A lot of "foreigners" who come to places as you mentioned, Thailand and Vietnam are for prostitution. And many of them are pedophiles . They can't do this in their homeland so they go to South east Asia to do it to get away with it. these people should have their penis chopped off to my opinion.
