If I am a volunteer worker in Vietnam for a government run orphanage, can that qualify me for a work visa

If I am a volunteer worker in Vietnam for a government run orphanage, can that qualify me for a work visa?
I visit Vietnam about every 4 months. While there I sponser caretakers at a government orphanage for handicapped children. I would like to live in Vietnam and work as a volunteer for this orphanage. Would this work qualify for a work or even a resident visa?

Vietnam always welcome those volunteers who come to help. Check with the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate near where you live and I'm sure they'll help you.

Interesting question. If you were in my area you would need a work visa to do what you're doing. Helping out at an orphanage would be considered a violation of a tourist visa. Whether or not it will qualify you for a work visa is another matter. Vietnam doesn't want workers, they want money. They've got plenty of workers here hence the crackdown on work visas which can be traced back to an article in the NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/21/world/asia/21china.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&partner=rss&emc=r

No.To get a business visa you must have a work permit. To get a work permit you must hold a university degree and have work experience for at least 5 years in your chosen field of work.As has already been mentioned by working [paid or unpaid] you are violating your tourist visa. Please don't be under the misapprehension that by doing a good deed you will favorably looked upon, you wont be.The Vietnamese do not live by the same moral code we as westerners are used to and certainly think in a much different way. I take my hat of to you for the wonderful thing you are doing, but your average corrupt official in immigration wont ,with people like you how does he get his money?.
