You need to be careful. There are different TYPES of harmonicas: diatonic, chromatic, tremolo... first you need to figure out which one he's got. Next, you need to find out how many holes his harmonica has, because each time of harmonica comes in different forms having various numbers of holes. For example, a diatonic harmonica usually has 10 holes but there are some with 12 holes. Once you get those two facts down (type + number of holes), then we can help you with recommendations. The reason this is so important is because the types of harmonicas have different tunings! It's almost like he'll have to learn a new instrument if you buy the wrong type.

50 what? Currency unit and your location will change the answer a lot. If he has a Golden Butterfly, they have a number of designs (diatonic, chromatic, tremolo), and I don't have a clue what they might have sold years ago. If you have any details (how many holes, is there a slide, is there two rows of holes), we can help narrow it some. If you've seen it and want to look for one yourself, try coast2coastmusic.com. They have a big selection and lots of types, manufacturers, and models.
