Many Chinese left China at that time because of political and economic situation. After II World War, there was a civil war between nationalists (Tchang Kai Chek) and the Chinese Communist party (Mao). In 1949 China became communist with Mao as a leader. Between 1950 and 1960 China suffered terrible starvation and unrest. So many people tried to fly to neighbouring countries. In Viet Nam, there was already a long time established Chinese community, so it was maybe easier for them to live there.
